RE: Material Transfer Agreement for pComb3XSS / Agr #2012-0170
Dear Dr. Sykes and Dr. Whittemore:
Sincere apologies for the delay. I am trying hard to keep up with
requests. Please don’t hesitate to bug me – the delay is my end.
Thank you for your interest in the phagemid pComb3XSS developed by Dr.
Carlos Barbas, et. al. We are pleased to supply the vectors to you for
use in your laboratory.
We view the free exchange of research materials as a right and duty of
the academic community. However, to meet our obligations to the
industrial sponsors of the research which resulted in the phagemid
technology, we require a MTA before release of the vectors. Please also
note that we require a $200 fee for preparation and shipment of materials.
Attached is the MTA (as .pdf and word for your convenience) for the pComb
vectors. Upon describing your research project with the Materials in
section 3, please return the MTA, signed by you and an authorized
representative of your institution and payment of $200 at your earliest
convenience. TSRI does not require hard copy originals - an emailed .pdf
file to me is acceptable. If your institution requires hard copy
originals, please mail the signed, duplicate hard copy originals to my
attention at the address below. Upon fully executing the MTA and receipt
of the payment, we will have the materials forwarded to you. Please
contact me if I can be of further assistance.
Best regards,
Sharon

Subject: pcomb3xss material transfer agreement
Hi Sharon Kwan,
I sent a material transfer agreement to obtain the pcomb3xss plasmid to
Roberta Fuller on February 9th. I have attached the material transfer
agreement again to this form. I am just curious about the status of this
transfer. Is there any further action that I need to take? Will I be able
to receive the plasmid fairly soon?
Thanks for any help and information that you can offer!
Best regards,

Wow, strict document. Here's an example of what I mean: "When the
Research Project is completed, or three (3) years have elapsed, whichever
occurs first, the Research Material will be destroyed by RECIPIENT or
otherwise disposed of as mutually agreed by provider and RECIPIENT."
Who will be the "authorized representative" (Pattie?) and who will be the
"recipient" (you?) to sign this document?

Misty Matero is the authorized rep We can email it to her. I can be the
recipient. Don’t worry about the language. You don’t need the
original construct for more than 3 yrs. You will be modifying it into a
library.

Go ahead and write a couple sentences about your use of the material
then return it to me. Then I’ll get this passed along to the right
channels.

Maybe the following sentences could work. I tried to keep my
descriptions somewhat broad in order to include a variety of uses for the
vector.
The pComb3XSS vector research material will be used in the Antigen
Discovery Project. This vector will aid in the construction of phage
antibody libraries from the B cells of hosts. These phage antibody
libraries can then be used to probe random peptide arrays as well as
biological material for antigens unique to diseases.
