A thought that occurred to me was to try to do research without using
your own funds or your own time or effort. You just have the idea. Then
you get the money from a crowd funding website like Kickstarter. Then you
use that money to contract the work out to other companies that do the
various parts of the project. Invitrogen (Life technologies) even has a
