Hi Guys!
Attached is the information regarding the steps for graduation… please
e-mail me if you have any questions. I’ll be located at a different
department on campus, but I can always meet you for coffee or something
if you ever have any questions.

Here are a few tips that I think will ease your graduation experience:
  1. Just as a good practice, you need to make sure you have an updated
iPOS. This is especially true close to graduation as you must have an
updated/approved iPOS before you can apply to graduate. This is typically
done the semester prior to the semester you are planning on graduating.
  1. Apply for graduation early. If you apply and don’t end up graduating
that semester, you can change the date without being charged an extra fee.
  1. Schedule your dissertation well in advance and make sure to pay
attention to the 10 working day calendar (this is Uber important! The GC
will not be sympathetic if you miss one of these deadlines). Also,
don’t procrastinate on scheduling the defense with Faculty, as I’m
sure you already know this, but they can be very difficult to get in one
room.
  1. Make sure the room/time is publically accessible (mon-fri, 8-5) and
large enough to hold a sizeable group (BDI Auditorium is a good spot).
Reserve the room with BDI, through Frances Kennedy, as early as you can
(let Maria know when the defense will be held so she can check the room
reservation). It’s a good idea to defend a little earlier in the
semester so you can have more time for revisions and wiggle room for
unforeseen complications. Also, make sure to double check what you’ve
entered into the electronic schedule form in MyASU, ie. date, time,
location (the title also needs to be grammatically correct and spelled
correctly).
  1. Follow up with your advisor to ensure they received the PASS/Fail form
for the defense. You MUST have a signed copy on the date of the defense.
The graduate college will want a copy of this so guard it with your life.
  1. Once the defense is over, make sure to scan a copy and send it to the
Graduate College. They will want the original before they will officially
pass you, but if you have revisions they will need to know you already
defended and are working on the revisions.
  1. Make a copy of the defense pass/fail form and give it to Maria. Then
physically walk the form over to the Graduate College… do NOT mail it.
  1. Treat yourself to a cocktail and then call Maria/Lauren to participate
in the celebratory festivities : )

I wish you all the best of LUCK! I know you all will do great… and of
course will move on to amazing things!
May the force be with you,
