Why would you make a gi list?
To perform a blast against only sequences from a certain species or
custom collection of sequences.

How to make a gi list?
Search for the sequences you want at the NIH protein page here:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/protein
To make a human species gi list search for
human[organism]
Then click the arrow next to send to->file->format->gi list->create file

Hello,

See the manual for the "gilist" command. You supply a file of gi numbers
corresponding to the sequences you want. Create that file by searching the
NCBI Protein database with the query, human[organism]) NOT gbdiv
pat[properties], then use the 'Send' menu to save that file in GI List
format.
