azim58 - e-mail to Johnny about the optimal entropy for life Okay Johnny, I think I might have the answer for the question "What is the entropy that life operates at or prefers?" since we know that life does not operate at max or min entropy levels. It is already known that networks found in living things or systems created by living things (highways, social networks, etc.) are "scale-free" networks or networks that follow a power law. There's few nodes with lots of connections like hubs, more nodes with fewer connections, and even more nodes with fewer connections just as we were discussing with the tree branches. Therefore, all I need to do in order to discover what the ideal entropy for life is to make a power law distribution for a certain number of elements, and calculate the entropy for that distribution. I can then see how this entropy value relates to the maximum entropy value possible for a system with that many elements. Note that there is also a relationship between Fibonacci numbers, the golden ratio, and power law distributions. I'll openly admit that I don't understand the exact details of those relationships, but quick searches reveal papers on these topics (ha maybe there's papers on any topics; but no I think this is real :) ) Likewise, I think that an adaptive system will come to resemble it's environment to a certain degree. Therefore, in order to produce the most "life-like" "beautiful" system, this system should be exposed to or stimulated by an environment which reflects such a power law distribution. -Kurt
