In the Bruno 2012 paper "Telomerase gene therapy in adult and old mice delays aging and increases longevity without increasing cancer" they did the rotarod test in the following way

To evaluate the motor coordination and balance, mice were tested in a
Rota-Rod apparatus (model LE 8200); the measures score the latency
of fall, with a continuous acceleration protocol, from 4 to 40 rpm, for a
maximum of 60 s in three trials (Castelhano-Carlos et al, 2010). The
tightrope test was performed as described elsewhere (Ingram &
Reynolds, 1986; Matheu et al, 2007; Tomas-Loba et al, 2008).
